That’s One BIG Fancy Drink!

Over the weekend in California, Snoop Dogg broke a world record. The rapper mixed up the largest gin and juice in the world! The giant paradise cocktail had 180 bottles of gin, 154 bottles of apricot brandy, 38 bottles of orange juice, a pineapple and melon garnish on a sword, a pink parasol, blocks of ice, and a massive straw!

InSight Lander on its Way to Mars

NASA just launched an interplanetary rocket from California. If all goes as planned, the Mars InSight lander will arrive on Mars in less than 7 months, on November 26th. The lander’s mission is to drill down to check the planet’s soil temperature, place a seismometer to measure marsquakes, and install antennas to measure the planet’s movements.

Zoo Baby Boom In L.A.

The Los Angeles Zoo in California has many new baby animals to visit! There are 2 Chacoan Peccary piglets, that look like hairy pigs; 2 Sichuan takin calves, that are like goat-antelopes; 2 ocelot kittens, which are spotted wildcats; an Eastern bongo calf, which is a striped antelope; and 7 Peninsular pronghorn fawns, which resemble deer. What a baby boom!

Tumbleweed Invasion

Victorville California didn’t get buried in snow. The town on the edge of the Mojave Desert got covered in tumbleweeds! The dry brush rolled in on 50 mile per hour wind gusts, and piled up to 7 feet high. The fronts of some houses were completely covered by tumbleweeds, stuck together like Legos. Cleanup could take a while!

L.A. Gets Even Cooler

Los Angeles is trying a new tactic to beat the California heat. They are painting the streets gray! The light-colored sealant prevents the asphalt from retaining heat, and can reduce surface temperatures by 23 degrees Fahrenheit. Cooler streets reduce the air temperatures in urban areas, which also saves electricity used for air conditioning. Cool!
