Titan is a Lot Like Earth

The Cassini mission started providing data about Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, a decade ago. Scientists are now finding similarities between Titan and Earth! Titan has karsts, rocky terrain that drains liquids. Titan’s oceans have a common sea level just like ours, although they are made of liquid hydrocarbons instead of water.

Double Whirlpools Found in Ocean

Scientists have observed a phenomenon they never noticed before: a double whirlpool. Whirlpools in the ocean, called eddies,  can stretch hundreds of miles across. Satellite imagery revealed that eddies flowing in opposite directions were actually linked all the way across the Tasman Sea. Connected eddies called modons may form when whirlpools collide.
