Today is West Virginia Day. When Virginia seceded from the Union during the time of the Civil War, the western part refused to join the Confederates, and formed the 35th state of West Virginia instead. Okay, you learned something. Now you’re excused, to enjoy Goof Off Day. Have fun!

Practice Makes Perfect Penmanship

How good is your penmanship? Probably not as good as Anaya Ellick, a 9 year-old girl from Virginia who won the Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest! Her cursive beat out kids in grades K through 8. What’s even more impressive is that Anaya was born without any hands, so she has to hold the pencil with her arms! Anaya is awesome!

That’s a Lotta Piñatas

During the ¿Que Pasa? Festival in Richmond Virginia, 1013 piñatas made of tissue paper and papier-mache were hung up along the canal, to set a world record for largest display of piñatas. After an exhibition, the piñatas will be filled with school supplies instead of candy, and donated to local schools.

Jog, Juggle, Joggle!

Can you jog 50 miles? Can you juggle? Can you do both at the same time in less than 8 hours? Rick Kwiatkowski from Charlottesville Virginia did it! He broke the world record for fastest 50 mile joggling. The International Jugglers’ Association holds Joggling World Championships every year in Springfield Massachusetts, so start practicing!
