That’s a Lotta Piñatas

During the ¿Que Pasa? Festival in Richmond Virginia, 1013 piñatas made of tissue paper and papier-mache were hung up along the canal, to set a world record for largest display of piñatas. After an exhibition, the piñatas will be filled with school supplies instead of candy, and donated to local schools.

Gnome Invasion

If you noticed a bunch of gnomes gathered in a mushroom shape in Atlanta Georgia, you weren’t seeing things. 755 people dressed up as garden gnomes, to break a world record! Chantelle Rytter and the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons had been trying to gather enough participants for the last decade, and finally succeeded!

Surfing Amazing Waves

Brazilian surfer Rodrigo Koxa is an official world record holder. At the 2018 Big Wave Awards, it was announced that his ride on an 80 foot wave in Nazare Portugal last November, was the highest wave ever surfed! His competitor, Britain’s Andrew Cotton, won the Wipeout of the Year Award on a similar wave that day. He’s still recovering!

Running 26 Miles Isn’t Enough?

Last weekend, the London Marathon resulted in 34 new world records! There was the fastest marathon on stilts, and the fastest people dressed as a carrot, Star Wars character, cheerleader, man in a wedding dress, and Forrest Gump. Even the weather participated: it was the hottest London Marathon on record, at a balmy 75 degrees Fahrenheit.

Throwing Pots For Charity

An art teacher in Medford, Wisconsin wanted to raise money for a food pantry with her students. She decided to do it by breaking a world record! Jill Fortin made 261 clay pots on a pottery wheel, in one hour. The art club raised $1000 for the food pantry, and kindergarten classes will decorate the pots and plant flowers.

Plant a Tree in 12 Seconds

The Sindh forest department in Pakistan wanted to plant some mangrove trees on an island mudflat, to help its threatened ecosystem. They decided to bring attention to coastal conservation by setting a world record in the process. 300 people planted 1,129,294 mangroves in only 12.5 hours! That averages out to 12 seconds per tree!

Stop Licking That Floor!

The Equipe da Casa do Chocolate takes its name seriously. Brazilian for “house of Chocolate,” the company set a world record for largest chocolate sculpture by building an entire house out of chocolate! The furniture, kitchen, typewriter, and even 2 human figures are all sculpted out of delicious chocolate! I think I’ll eat the chocolate eggs first.
