Mountains Grow Taller During Drought

The Sierra Nevada Mountain range expanded a bit after a prolonged drought. They grew an inch taller! Water weight causes the Earth to sag. The four-year drought in California allowed water to drain through cracks deep into the earth below. Losing water weight causes elastic rebound, when the mountains rise to original elevations.
