Drinking Water From the Air

Have you ever seen how much pee, a disposable diaper can hold? A special gel inside, traps the liquid. Scientists have developed a gel that can pull water out of the air, even in the driest desert. It could capture drinking water, for people living in drought-stricken areas with water shortages.

Planets Gather for a Group Shot

All the planets we can see with the naked eye, are lining up in the sky. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, are arranged from left to right, in order of their distance from the Sun. They’ll be visible along the horizon the whole month of June, before sunrise. Mars is the reddish one.

June is Pride Month, celebrated by the LGBTQ+ community and their supporters. LGBTQ stands for lesbian-gay-bi-trans-queer, and the + represents all the other variations, because there are so many different kinds of people. Since everyone knows snakes hate fudge, it’ll make them slither away in disgust. Yell “fudge” at noon, with the whole continent!

Save the Swimming for After the Race

There was an unusual race in Spain on Sunday. It may have looked like dogs were surfing, but it was actually the Dog Paddle Surf Race. Dogs were required to remain on paddleboards, while their humans paddled a 1-mile course. It takes a well-trained poochie, to resist jumping into the water for a swim.

Save the Undersea Neighborhoods

Did you know, some sunscreens are harmful to coral reefs? It’s World Reef Awareness Day, and these important ecosystems are in trouble. Plastic pollution in the ocean, harmful chemicals from tourists’ sunblocks, or rising water temperatures of only 2-4 degrees Fahrenheit, can cause coral reefs to eventually die. Let’s all work to save the reefs!

A Big Day for Dinosaurs

Young paleontologists will be happy to know, it’s Dinosaur Day! Practice your excavation skills, by burying toy dinosaurs in a sandbox. Identify the species, then research when it lived. Dinosaurs from the Jurassic Period, like the brachiosaurus and stegosaurus, lived from 201,000,000 to 145,000,000 years ago. Tyrannosaurus rex lived later, in the Cretaceous Period.

Let Your Feet Be Free Under the Table

Can’t find your shoes? Who cares! It’s Go Barefoot Day! Feel some lush grass, warm sand, or fuzzy carpet between your toes. It’s also Nail Polish Day, so paint your toenails. Make them look like dragon claws, and play Dungeons and Dragons, for TableTop Day. What’s your favorite tabletop game?

You’re the Best Pen Pal Ever

You’re such a nice person! I like that shirt you’re wearing. Today is Say Something Nice Day. Complimenting someone can really brighten their day. Try it and see! It’s also Pen Pal Day. Texting and e-mail are easy ways to write to people, but sending a hand-written letter in the mail is something special.

4th Graders Cover the Park Pass

The year you’re in 4th grade in the United States, you can get into any National Park for free! The Every Kid In A Park program, created by President Obama in 2015, is now called Every Kid Outdoors. 4th-graders can print a free annual pass, good for everyone in the car, at Every-Kid-Outdoors.gov.
