Collision Course Is Only An Illusion

If you get up before dawn on April 30th, you’ll be able to see 2 planets look like they’re nearly colliding. Jupiter and Venus will be so close, they’ll look like one giant star. The following morning, the position of the planets will be reversed. Don’t worry, the planets are actually 430,000,000 miles apart!

The World Needs More Trees

Trees are awesome. They clean pollution out of the air, and produce oxygen for us to breathe. They are food and shelter for wildlife. Trees give us shade, flowers, fruit and nuts, and wood. Today is Arbor Day, created to encourage everyone to plant a tree. What kind of tree will you plant?

Zip Over the Walls

Today is We Jump The World Day, celebrating Parkour. Also known as free running, it requires impossible-looking jumps and catapulting off walls! It might be easier to celebrate International Dance Day, by dancing all day long! It’s also Zipper Day, so use your jacket zipper to create a funky rhythm.

A Wish for Pocket Poetry

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I wish this poem rhymed,
but it doesn’t.

Today is Poem In Your Pocket Day. Carry your favorite poem around, to share with others. Since it’s also World Wish Day, my wish is that you find a better poem, than the one I wrote, ha-ha!

Ukrainians Find Refuge With Kind People

As the Russian military continues to attack Ukraine, millions of people have fled the country. Many are traveling on foot, with only a suitcase and their pets. Barry Haughian gave some of the refugees a place to stay, in his 15th century castle in Ireland. Around the world, people are donating money and supplies.

That Volcano Woke Up Grumpy

An underwater volcano near Antarctica, caused a flurry of activity as it was waking up. During a 4-month period in 2020, there were 85,000 earthquakes. Scientists are studying the data, and believe they were caused by a finger of hot liquid magma, poking up through the Earth’s crust. The volcano’s settled down for now.

Be On Time For Work

Today is Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day, but that’s not really safe right now, unless your parents are working from home. Sit in on a conference call or Zoom meeting! If they’re temporarily not working, ask them to pretend you’re a new employee, and train you for their favorite job.

Super-Poetic Pie

Today is Superhero Day. Wear your favorite superhero costume, or create your own secret identity. Don’t forget an outfit. Then read something by Shakespeare or Dr. Seuss, Maya Angelou or Shel Silverstein, or another favorite poet. It’s Great Poetry Reading Day! And we can’t forget Blueberry Pie Day! Just don’t stain your superhero costume.
