Michael and Maria Spressler moved to Cape May New Jersey, 34 years ago. They were marking the anniversary by eating at The Lobster House, when Michael bit down on something hard. There was a large pearl, worth thousands of dollars, in his clam! The 100-year-old restaurant had never seen that happen before.

Is That Shark Sleepswimming?

Scientists have been studying sharks, to see if they sleep. Most sharks have to swim constantly, to keep oxygenated water, flowing over their gills. It’s possible that sharks’ swimming movements, are controlled by mechanisms in their spinal cord, instead of their brain. That means sharks could still swim, while they take a quick nap.

Getting Heat Straight From the Source

An energy company called Quaise, has an ambitious plan. They want to tap into the Earth’s endless supply of heat, by penetrating deep into its crust. Quaise wants to go deeper than drilling, by burning holes using electromagnetic radiation. The 12-mile-deep holes, can then supply clean geothermal energy to more communities.

Who’s Your Favorite Barbie?

Today is Barbie Day. Ruth Handler made the first Barbie doll, over 60 years ago! If you visit Washington DC, check out a wacky collection of Barbies, in a garden on Q Street. The display changes with the holidays, and has an Instagram account called Barbie Pond on Avenue Q, showing Barbies having fun.

Oh no! You’re late for school! Just kidding, I only wanted to help you celebrate Panic Day. Are you upset because I tricked you? Forget about it, because it’s Get Over It Day. It’s also False Teeth Day. George Washington had a set made from animal teeth, set in led!

Sky-High Dining

Are you afraid of heights? You might want to skip eating dinner, at the Heavenly Jin. The restaurant is located on the 120th floor of the Shanghai Tower, in China. At an altitude of 1,825 feet, it’s the world’s highest restaurant in a building. Every meal comes with an incredible view!

Volcano Full of Water

Today is Oregon Day. Did you know the state is home, to the deepest lake in the United States? Crater Lake is nestled in the top of a sleeping volcano. Mount Mazama was 12,000 feet tall before it erupted and collapsed 7,700 years ago. Its crystal clear, deep blue water, comes entirely from rain and snow-melt.

Did You Forgot to Proofread?

Two day is Poofreading Day. I mean proofreading. You might thin spellcheck will catch all your mistakes, but if you spell worms right, but really meant to write words, you’re going to really confuse the reader. And don’t even get me started on autocorrect fails. Always double-check what you wrote, before you click submit.

Break the Bias

Today is International Women’s Day, which was first celebrated in 19 11. This year’s theme is, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.” Women have not always had the same rights as men, so they had to work hard to gain equality. Many places in the world, still limit the rights of women.
