Gathering Sun and Throwing Shade

California is home to a triple-duty solar canal project. The canal, which helps irrigate crops, was covered with solar panels. The panels shade the flowing water, saving more than 63,00,000,000 gallons of water from evaporating, as well as generate 1.6 megawatts of power. The shade also prevents the growth, of harmful algae.
