Mama Kivuli Had a Baby Boy

Just in time for Okapi Day, the Sacramento Zoo in California welcomed its first okapi calf. The okapi is the only relative to the giraffe, but they live in forests. They have long necks, zebra-striped legs, reddish bodies, and prehensile tongues. Fewer than 10,000 wild okapis remain in their native Democratic Republic of Congo.

Lakes Are Great

Did you know, it’s Spoil Your Dog Day? Take your dogs on a long walk, play fetch as long as they want, give them all their favorite treats, and give them lots of belly rubs. It’s also Celebrating Your Lakes Day, so everyone should enjoy a day by the water.

Long and Floofy Tail

A 2-year-old cat in Minnesota holds the new world record, for the longest tail on a domestic cat. The silver Maine coon cat’s name is Mr Pugley Adams, and his tail is 18.5 inches long! He carries his fluffy tail high with pride, and stays away from rocking chairs.

Green Belt Around the Desert

After 46 years of work, China has encircled the entire Taklamakan Desert with trees. The final 100 trees of the Green Great Wall of China, were planted last week. The ring of trees will help contain the shifting sands, and has increased the forest coverage of China, by 25%. Orchards will be planted next.
