Tuesday is the last day of voting, for Katmai National Park’s Fat Bear Week. The final 2 contestants are 7 4 7, and Chunk. Chunk will wait patiently to scavenge leftover salmon, and play with other bears, despite his huge size. 7 4 7 is a skilled angler, and enjoys sitting in the Brooks Falls jacuzzi section. Who will win?

Have you ever seen a badger? American badgers, European badgers, and honey badgers, are several species that look quite different from each other. Badgers can be found in many parts of North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Today is Badger Day, so look up some pictures, and see which type looks the friendliest!

Today is Mad Hatter Day, so wear a crazy hat, and have fun acting silly! Maybe your hat should have spaghetti on it, because it’s also Noodle Day! What’s your favorite noodle shape? Don’t forget about Coaches Day. Many people volunteer their time to coach kids’ sports. Give them a special fist-bump thank you!

A garbage truck in Pennsylvania, recently gained an eager assistant. Instead of raiding trash cans, a bear decided to go for the whole truck! The bear was hitching a ride on top, so the sanitation crew drove to the police station for help. The bear climbed down, and skedaddled into the woods.

Thomas the Tank Engine has been rolling along, for a very long time. Someone returned their overdue books to a library in Hampshire England, after 48 years. One of the books was “Small Railway Engines,” about Thomas and his friends. It’s a good thing the late fees were forgiven, which had accumulated to $10,800.

Some parrots at a zoo in New Zealand, have potty mouths. Billy, Eric, Tyson, Jade, and Elsie, are grey parrots who have learned to swear. Zoo keepers are hoping the rest of the colony of 200, doesn’t pick up the bad habit! The zoo has separated them, so they don’t set each other off.

Today is Bullying Prevention Day. Think really hard about yourself. Are you ever a bully? Bullying is more than beating someone up, or taking their lunch money. It can look like making fun of people, purposely leaving someone out, or saying things about someone online. Stick up for others, and don’t be a bully.

Teachers have one of the most important jobs in the world. During the pandemic, it’s been even harder, to juggle classroom safety, online learning, and keeping themselves protected at the same time. Give them a big “Thank you” today, because it’s World Teachers Day! Teachers are the best!
