Oysters Are the Ocean’s Ecosystem Engineers

When the Wild Oysters project released thousands of oysters off the coast of England, the oysters produced 1,000,000,000 larvae and filtered 22,000,000 liters of water to clean out pollutants. This year, oysters were released in San Francisco Bay and Long Island Sound. They form natural breakwaters, to help protect the shore from storms.

Police officers in Ohio, were in hot pursuit of a runaway pumpkin this week. A giant inflatable pumpkin had broken loose from someone’s Halloween-decorated yard, and gone rolling down the street. They joked that “Cinderella’s carriage did, in fact, turn back into a pumpkin just after midnight.” They safely deflated and returned the pumpkin.

Are you aware, that not all penguins live where it’s cold? Now you know, for International African Penguin Awareness Day. The Cape or South African penguin, lives in Africa. They lay their eggs in burrows, to protect them from the heat. The holes are also handy, for hiding from leopards!

Jade Henderson set a new world record, for the most pull ups by a woman in one hour. The Australian bodybuilder averaged 12-per-minute, with a final tally of 733 pull ups. She had originally hoped to attempt to break the 24-hour record, but tore a tendon after doing 3,500 pull-ups in 12 hours.
