Today is Scavenger Hunt Day. Here’s a list of things to find: an ant, 2 spoons, a dried-up leaf, a purple flower, a black sock, 3 pennies, a nail, a stick, mustard or ketchup, a blade of grass, a toy plane, and a paintbrush. Who will be first to find everything? What will the prize be?

Today is Tiara Day, so become royalty for the day, and wear your fanciest tiara or crown. Make your own crown jewels with rhinestones, or weave flowers into an all-natural tiara. Plus, it’s Brother’s Day. Stop fighting over who gets to be king, and hug your brother! You can each rule your own domain.

When a man in California spotted poop on the roof of his guest house, he could tell it wasn’t from a bird. He looked around for the source, and found a mountain lion staring right at him. The man quickly went inside, in case the cougar wanted to poop in peace.

Are you a good speller? If you can spell favorite, niece, and through, you’re better than a lot of people. An analysis of Google search data, showed those were some of the most common words people asked how to spell. Bougie, business, tomorrow, because, definitely, beautiful, and separate rounded out the top 10.

Today is World Turtle Day. Sea turtles, freshwater terrapins, and land tortoises, are reptiles with shells, that grow with them. Did you know their shells can bleed if cracked? Always leave turtles in the wild. A box turtle’s lifespan is around 40 years, but Jonathan, a Seychelles giant tortoise, is 193 years old!

Have you ever gone to a salt water taffy shop at the beach, and watched a machine pull taffy? Today is Taffy Day, so enjoy a chewy treat, while you watch a taffy pulling video online. It’s mesmerizing to watch the candy spin and stretch and spin and stretch and spin and stretch.

Find a penny, pick it up, all the day you’ll have good luck. It’s always lucky to find money! Today is Lucky Penny Day.  Some rare pennies are worth thousands of dollars. Keep all the pennies you find in a little bank, and next year on Lucky Penny Day, buy yourself a treat!

When you go to the store, you probably see 1 or 2 types of carrot, even though there are hundreds of varieties. There are over 1000 varieties of bananas, and thousands of different kinds of corn. Today is the International Day For Biological Diversity, so browse a seed catalog, or explore a farmer’s market.

Then have a family mystery day, and take turns being Sherlock, his sidekick Dr. Watson, and the nefarious Professor Moriarty.
