Did you know, it’s Do Something Nice Day? You could do something big, like raise money for victims of natural disasters, or something small, like giving someone a friendly smile. You could write a letter to your grandparents, or pick up a pice of trash. If everyone does one nice thing, today’ll be fantastic!

Teachers have one of the most important jobs in the world. During the pandemic, it was even harder, to juggle classroom safety, online learning, and keeping themselves protected all at once. Teachers are the best! Since World Teachers’ Day falls on a Sunday, write them a thank you note today, to deliver on Monday.

The Elmwood Park Zoo in Pennsylvania, has a new baby two-toed sloth. The mama sloth, named Beanie, gave birth in August, but they only recently made their public debut. The little one will be called Beanie’s Baby for now, since they won’t know if it’s a boy or girl until next year.

Today is Save The Vaquita Day. The vaquita is a small type of porpoise, nicknamed the panda of the sea because of black patches around its eyes. There are only about 10 of the marine mammals left, due to getting trapped in gillnets laid by fishermen. They live in the Gulf of California.

Today is Polenta Day, which is boiled cornmeal. Try it baked or fried. It’s also World Animal Day, so invite all your animal friends. Can you name an animal that starts with each letter of the alphabet? B is for Bobcat, S is for Squid, and W is for Wombat. Your turn!

October 4th is Ten-Four Day, a good day to practice your CB radio lingo. Ten-four means OK, or message received. Now you’re ready to communicate with truck drivers, for Truckers Day! Say Over-and-out to end your conversation , then go eat a delicious cinnamon roll, for Cinnamon Roll Day!

Today is International Frugal Fun Day. Frugal means thrifty, so do something that doesn’t cost a lot of money. How about a hike in the woods, to find different-colored leaves! You can make cards with them, for Card Making Day. It’s cheaper than buying a card, and a way to give frugal fun away.

Today is Butterfly And Hummingbird Day. They both fly and drink nectar from flowers, but their similarities end there. Butterflies are insects, that transform from caterpillars. Hummingbirds are tiny birds that can hover in midair, by beating their wings up to 200 times-per-second. They hatch from eggs the size of a small jelly bean!

Today is Look At The Leaves Day. Are they turning red, orange, and yellow yet? The Fall Foliage Prediction Map, at SmokyMountains.com, has updates so leaf peepers, can travel to see the colors at their peak. Search for spectacular leaves in your yard or the park, to press them, or create a colorful bouquet.

Today is World Smile Day! It’s easy to start a smile chain, if you smile at everyone you see. There’s a lot to smile about, like Kids Music Day. Form a band with your friends, making instruments out of anything that makes noise, then play a concert. Everyone will love your awesome music.
