Find Some Moths

Welcome to Moth Week, a citizen scientist project to study moths. The biggest moth in the world, is the Atlas moth, with a 12-inch wingspan. Smaller ones are also easy to find, by leaving a porch light on at night. Look closely, to find moths camouflaged on trees. Report your findings at NationalMothWeek.org.

Hang with a Mango

Is it going to be another hot day where you live? Forget about exerting yourself, and just spend the day relaxing in a hammock. It’s Hammock Day, as well as Mango Day. Slice up a sweet chilled mango, to eat while you’re hanging around. Make sure everyone gets a turn!

Making Progress in the Galapagos

The Galapagos Conservancy reported great progress last year, with its conservation efforts in the Galapagos Islands. They reintroduced more than 300 endangered Galapagos tortoises, to their native habitat. They also helped albatrosses, by building 50 landing strips on the islands. The large birds need space to take off and land, like planes need runways.

Stay Safe in the Sand

Many people don’t realize, that going to the beach and digging holes in the sand, can be deadly. Deep holes can easily collapse on kids, and bury them. Never dig a hole deeper than knee height, and don’t forget to fill the hole in when you leave, so no one steps in it!

I’m Sorry and Can I Have a Hug?

When you’ve made someone mad at you, it’s known as being in the doghouse. Today’s Get Out Of The Doghouse Day! Apologize, beg, and bribe your way out of trouble. It’s also Global Hug Your Kids Day. Reminding your parents that you really need a hug, might help you get out of the doghouse.

A Meal for Me and My Monkey

Did you know, it’s Take A Monkey To Lunch Day? I wish I had a pet monkey to dine with! You could either bring your monkey stuffed animals with you, picnic at the zoo with baboons, or grab a bunch of bananas and your friends, pretend to be monkeys, and eat in the trees.

Even Defeat Can Taste Sweet

It can take a long time to finish a lollipop if you just lick it, instead of biting it. It’s Lollipop Day, so get a big colorful lollipop, and make it last all day! You can play a leisurely game of chess while you eat it, because it’s also International Chess Day. Checkmate!


Stage a Simultaneous Jump with Friends

In 2006, German artist Torsten Lauschmann, proposed an event where 600,000,000 people in the Western Hemisphere would jump at the same time, to change the Earth’s orbit and standardize the climate. It was meant to be a satirical art event, drawing attention to global warming. Celebrate World Jump Day, by jumping as high as you can!
