Today is International Astronomy Day. It’s always held around the quarter-moon, so the skies are darker. Plan an evening of stargazing, by looking up spring constellations to search for tonight. Use binoculars or a telescope for a closer look. Free phone apps, like SkyView Lite or Star Walk, can help you identify stars and planets.

You might think it’s Saturday, but it’s also Sun Day. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter designated May 3rd as a day to promote solar power. The Sun generates massive amounts of energy, but we need more innovative ways to harness it. Solar panels can power houses, cars, or even entire cities.

Have you ever created your own stamp, by carving a potato, eraser, or styrofoam block? Maybe you’ve made a foot or handprint, using fingerpaints. Today is Print Day In May, so make some prints for everyone. Keep a copy for yourself in a scrapbook, along with photos or things you’ve written, for Scrapbook Day.

Today’s going to be fun! It’s Two Different Colored Shoes Day! Walk proudly in your mismatched shoes. No need to be normal. Besides, it’s Paranormal Day! Celebrate the strange things that can’t be explained by science, by watching Ghostbusters or Harry Potter. Then relax in the garden, because it’s Garden Meditation Day. Chill out!

Today is Free Comic Book Day! Many stores are excited to introduce people to the world of graphic novels, by giving them a free book. Find a participating comic book store near you. On your way, look for orange and black butterflies, because it’s Start Seeing Monarchs Day! Plant milkweed for them to eat.

A woman in Florida was walking her little dog, when a bear suddenly appeared next to her. She quickly grabbed her chihuahua and lifted him to safety, but the bear didn’t leave. She remembered her mom had given her a bag of cookies, so she threw them to the bear, and made her escape.

Did you know, it’s World Tuna Day? There are many different types of tuna living in the ocean. The Atlantic bluefin tuna, can grow 15 feet long, but the biggest tuna fish ever found, was 21 feet long, and weighed 1,600 pounds! They can swim 60 miles per hour and dive 3000 feet deep.

Tuba players rejoice. It’s International Tuba Day! The big bass horn gives the necessary oompah for marching bands. Practice outside, so everyone can enjoy it. It’s Space Day as well. How many planets can you name? Study the Moon tonight, and see if you can spot any constellations in the stars.

Today is Brothers and Sisters Day, so thank them for being born! You might not always get along, but you can always love each other. Maybe your mom’s still pregnant with your little brother or sister, but that’s okay. It’s also Baby Day! Prepare by practicing your baby talk, and how to play peek-a-boo.

Today is Truffle Day. The chocolate truffle is a ball of rich, creamy chocolate ganache, covered or filled with a variety of other ingredients. Delicious! Oh, you don’t like candy? Then you can eat the other kind of decadent truffle. It’s an extremely expensive fungi that grows underground, found by truffle hogs or dogs.
