9-Year-Old Receives Presidential Award

Uhuru Kenyatta, the President of Kenya, presented a 9-year-old boy with the Presidential Order of Service. Stephen Wamukota received the Uzalendo Award, for inventing a hand-washing machine, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Kenya. The machine is operated with a foot pedal, so users can avoid touching soap and water dispensers.

You’ve probably heard of solar energy, which is power generated by the sun. Now, scientists are working on shadow power! The Shadow-Effect Energy Generator device, or SEG, uses the contrast between light and darkness, to produce electricity. Since the voltage between the light and dark sides is different, it produces an electric current!

Lachlan Pye came back from diving in Australia, one flipper short. He was spear fishing, and after catching a fish, a bull shark swam up and stole the flipper, right off his foot! Maybe the shark was upset, because Lachlan had caught one of its friends. Neither the diver nor the shark was hurt.

Breaking 150 World Records

David Rush recently set a world record, by drinking lemon juice. He decided to follow up with his 150th world record, by drinking 1 liter of lime juice through a straw, in 17.29 seconds. It was a good way to celebrate the release of his new book, called “Breaking Records; 21 Lessons From 21 Record Attempts.”

Buying Land to Keep it Wild

The Nature Conservancy, is an organization dedicated to preserving land, rivers, and animals. After raising 4.3 million dollars, they recently purchased 419 acres next to Zion National Park in Utah. The land includes 2 miles of the Virgin River, which helped create some of Zion’s canyons. Now the river and its ecosystem, can be preserved forever.

Discrimination Doesn’t Take a Sick Day

Even though the COVID-19 pandemic is still going on, tens of thousands of people gathered in cities around the world on Saturday, to protest racism. When something is important enough, sometimes you have to take risks, to stand up for what’s right. Be as careful as you can, while fighting for equality for all.

Sesame Street Stands Up to Racism

Saturday at 10:00 a.m Eastern Time, Sesame Street and CNN, will be hosting a Town Hall show for kids and families, called “Coming Together; Standing Up to Racism.” Big Bird, Abby Cadabby, Elmo, and Rosita will answer questions sent in by viewers, about racism, protests, and diversity.
