Spring forward, fall back. Clocks moved forward one hour last night, in North America, for Daylight Saving Time. It’s dark again when kids get up for school, but there’s more natural light in the evening to play outside! It’s good for businesses, and saves a little on electricity. But I’m still sleepy!

On March 7th 1876, Alexander Graham Bell received the first patent for a telephone. A patent gives the owner the rights to their invention. Elisha Gray and Antonio Meucci also invented versions of the telephone, but Bell got his patent first! Celebrate Alexander Graham Bell Day, by talking to someone on a phone.

Today is Maple Syrup Saturday, which begins Maple Weekend at many parks. Visit a sugar shack, and see how sap from a maple tree, becomes syrup for your pancakes and maple sugar candy. If you still have snow, try making maple syrup snow cream, or maple candy popsicles, using recipes found online.

How do you like to eat your fruits, nuts and grains? Since it’s Cereal Day and Flapjack Day, you can experiment! Have pancakes with walnuts and blueberries, oatmeal with pecans and peaches, and cornflakes with bananas and almond milk. It sounds like a delicious all-day breakfast is on today’s menu.

Today is Plant Power Day, reminding you to eat plant-based foods. Fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains are packed with power, so try eating a vegan diet all day. Your body will be happy to get healthy food, and the Earth will be happy you’re eating something it grew itself!

As the weather gradually warms up, you may be dreaming of summer. Get a head start on pool season, by recycling your old swimsuits. Whoo-hoo-hoo!, It’s Festival Of Owls Week! Owls come in many sizes, from the 6-inch tall elf owl, to the Blakiston’s fish owl, which has a 6 1/2-foot wingspan! Owls can only look straight ahead, but they can turn their heads so far to either side, that they can see what’s behind them.

Today is Middle Name Pride Day. Maybe you’re named after someone special, or maybe it just sounded good. See if you can guess your friends’ middle names. It’s also the Day of Unplugging. Starting at sundown, turn off all your devices for 24 hours. Turn me back on at sundown tomorrow!

Before you get dressed today, you should know it’s Dress Day. Dress up in a dress! It’s also White Chocolate Cheesecake Day, and Frozen Food Day. Clarence Birdseye discovered, flash freezing food keeps it tasty! Frozen fruits and veggies are just as nutritious as fresh ones. Celebrate with frozen cheesecake and a tv dinner.

Today’s the day, for cookies. We’re in the middle of Chocolate Chip Cookie Week, but it’s also Oreo Cookie Day. The chocolate cookie and creme filling sandwiches were introduced in 1912, but Oreos have also come in lots of variations. Mint, birthday cake, Coca Cola, Space Dunk, and java chip, are some recent flavors.
