Today is Wright Brothers Day. Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first flight in a mechanically propelled airplane, near Kitty Hawk North Carolina, in 1903. That flight only lasted 12 seconds, and went 120 feet. The wingspan of a 747 is longer than that! It’s also Maple Syrup Day. Boiled tree sap sure does taste delicious!

The popular YouTuber Stampy Cat, set a new world record playing Minecraft. He made and displayed 10 cakes in under 4 minutes, in Minecraft survival mode. He spawned his skeletons and cow into pits, so they wouldn’t disturb him while he was making cakes. Who needs skeletons interrupting you when you’re baking!

African grey parrots are very smart. Rocco also has a smart mouth, which got him kicked out of an animal sanctuary for swearing at visitors. The mischeivous parrot is in trouble again, for using me to order snacks like strawberries and popcorn. He also asks me to play songs and tell jokes!

Astronomers have been watching a fierce battle take place, 650 light-years away. Images taken by the SPHERE planet-hunting instrument, show a red giant star getting devoured by a white dwarf star. Both stars are near the end of their lifespans, which could someday end in a supernova explosion!

Australia has come up with a new way to protect wild animals from traffic. They’ve created a virtual fence, with alarms every 80 feet. Sirens and flashing lights warn animals when a car is approaching, giving them time to move away from the road to safety. The fence keeps everyone safer!

So Yummy and Good Morning America teamed up this week, to break the world record for the most cookies iced in 1 hour. More than 50 people decorated 1,696 gingerbread cookies! The cookies were donated to charities in New York, and So Yummy donated $15,000 to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer. Now I really want a cookie!

In China, cockroaches are helping to keep waste out of landfills. At the Shandong Qiaobin Agricultural Technology Company, a billion cockroaches are eating 50 tonnes of food waste every day! When the roaches die, they are used to feed pigs. The company hopes to open more facilities next year. I hope their cockroaches don’t escape!
