Last week, NASA took a photograph of Antarctica that shows a totally rectangular iceberg. Although it looks man-made, it’s actually perfectly natural. It’s called a tabular iceberg, with nearly vertical sides and a flat top. The crisp angles occur when a chunk breaks off the ice shelf. The largest was a 4,200 square mile giant!

Dunkirk France has become the largest European city to provide free bus rides for everyone. It’s had a huge impact on the city of 200,000. Even visitors travel for free, so there’s less air pollution, more people having conversations, and more mobility for the young and old who don’t drive. It makes getting around easy!

The calf’s parents are named Daisy and Skeeter, and they can’t decide whether to name their daughter Lily, Tulip, or Penelope. Chinese scientists have developed a type of rice that grows in saltwater. The crops also yield twice as much rice! The rice could be grown in areas where the soil is too salty for regular crops, or where freshwater is scarce. It would feed hundreds of millions of people!

Black holes are regions of space where gravity is so strong, not even light can escape. Astronomers have discovered that the magnetic field around a black hole can help feed it, by trapping material like a giant cosmic net. Now they’ll study the effect the fields might have on galactic nuclei and their surroundings.

In 2008, the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope was launched. 10 years later, the Fermi team has located about 3000 sources of gamma rays, and created constellations from some of them. We can’t see gamma rays, but you can look at NASA’s website to view constellations like the Hulk, Albert Einstein, Starship Enterprise, Tardis, and Godzilla!
