A new material is shaping skyscrapers these days. It’s called cross-laminated timber, or CLT, and is produced in the small town of Riddle Oregon. CLT is made by glueing panels of wood together in layers. Plyscrapers are earthquake and fire resistant, cheaper to build, and environmentally friendly!

Scientist Piotr Naskrecki created a nature documentary called “The Human Botfly”. He found his skin infested with botflies after a trip to Belize. Naskrecki extracted one, but let the others continue their life cycle and filmed the whole process. Watching maggots make their film debut is both revolting and fascinating!

While you’re on your summer break, I bet you’re enjoying sleeping in. Human adults need 8 hours of sleep while babies need 16. Bats sleep about 20 hours, and giraffes take brief naps that add up to two hours a day. Dolphins can sleep with half of their brain and just keep swimming!

The Erie Seawolves baseball team unveiled a treat last week, that is the stuff of nightmares. In honor of their Sugar Rush Night, they sold hot dogs wrapped in a cotton candy bun. Ketchup and mustard were replaced by candy Nerds. If this sounds good to you, I think I’ll skip dinner at your house!

Uh-oh, parents have a new argument for not getting you that new toy. Researchers found that having too many toys can stifle creativity. When kids in their study were given only a few toys, they played with them longer, created new uses for the toys and had more fun overall!
