Earthy Chocolate

Today is Truffle Day. The chocolate truffle is a ball of rich, creamy chocolate ganache, covered or filled with a variety of other ingredients. Delicious! Oh, you don’t like candy? Then you can eat the other kind of decadent truffle. It’s an extremely expensive fungi that grows underground, found by truffle hogs or dogs.

Monarch Is Also a Supervillain

Today is Free Comic Book Day! Many stores are excited to introduce people to the world of graphic novels, by giving them a free book. Find a participating comic book store near you. On your way, look for orange and black butterflies, because it’s Start Seeing Monarchs Day! Plant milkweed for them to eat.

Be Nice to Your Siblings

Today is Brothers and Sisters Day, so thank them for being born! You might not always get along, but you can always love each other. Maybe your mom’s still pregnant with your little brother or sister, but that’s okay. It’s also Baby Day! Prepare by practicing your baby talk, and how to play peek-a-boo.

Scraps and Prints

Have you ever created your own stamp, by carving a potato, eraser, or styrofoam block? Maybe you’ve made a foot or handprint, using fingerpaints. Today is Print Day In May, so make some prints for everyone. Keep a copy for yourself in a scrapbook, along with photos or things you’ve written, for Scrapbook Day.

Rally for Rhinos

Today is Save The Rhinos Day, and these endangered animals could really use our help. Poachers hunt rhinoceroses for their horns, which are made of keratin, just like your fingernails! Their habitat is also disappearing. The white rhino is the largest of the 5 rhino species, averaging about 5000 pounds and 6 feet tall.

Spread the Love with Dessert

Today is Global Love Day. Start the day by loving yourself, because you’re awesome! Then find little ways, to show your family and friends how much you love them. Smiles are the best gifts, and they’re free! But since it’s also Chocolate Parfait Day, maybe you can also share some of your delicious dessert.

Outer Space Tubas

Tuba players rejoice. It’s International Tuba Day! The big bass horn gives the necessary oompah for marching bands. Practice outside, so everyone can enjoy it. It’s Space Day as well. How many planets can you name? Study the Moon tonight, and see if you can spot any constellations in the stars.

Hooray for May!

Happy May Day! May 1st is often celebrated as the beginning of spring. Give people flowers, and dance around a May pole! In Hawaii, it’s also Lei Day. Leis are beautiful flower garlands you wear around your neck. But first, go to the principal’s office. No, you’re not in trouble! Just wish them Happy School Principals’ Day!

Martin Says Summer’s Coming Early

On Groundhog Day, a groundhog predicts how many weeks of winter remain. But on Martin Z Mollusk Day, if the hermit crab in Ocean City New Jersey sees his shadow, summer comes a week early. After a check-up with Doctor Frankenstein, Martin crawls out, accompanied by a marching band and Big Mama Llama.

It’s All a Matter of Perspective

Have you ever thought about what the night sky looks like to people on the other side of the world? If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, the moon will be flipped from what people in the Southern Hemisphere see. If you’re in Canada, and want to see what Australians see, just turn upside-down!
