Welcome Baby Red Wolf

Red wolves are the most endangered canid species in the world, with only 15 to 20 remaining in the wild. Rhode Island’s Roger Williams Park Zoo, is happy to announce the birth of a red wolf pup, to first-time mama, Brave, and papa Diego. It’s the zoo’s first red wolf pup since 2005.

Shark Volcano Erupts

Recent NASA satellite images, show plumes of discolored water, over the underwater Kavachi Volcano. It has been erupting, sending flows of acidic water through the ocean. The area also happens to be home, to hammerhead and silky sharks. That’s why one of the most active submarine volcanoes in the Pacific, is also called Shark-cayno.

Yawns Are Contagious

Try this experiment, while you’re around other people. Give a great big yawn. Did it make anyone else yawn? Scientists think yawning, which draws in fresh air and cools your brain, could be a way for groups of animals, to synchronize their behavior. It helps everyone, stay more alert. This is making me yawn.

It’s a joke, because slugs don’t migrate, and they only travel 40 feet a night. See if any are in your garden!

How Do We Get Down?

Firefighters in London conducted an unusual rescue, on top of a 3-story building. A mama duck had hatched her eggs in a rooftop nest, and her 7 ducklings had no way down. The firefighters had to use a ladder to get to them. The ducklings will live at The Swan Sanctuary until they’re older.

Horses Reply to Work Emails

A new service called Out-Horse Your Email, uses horses to reply to your work emails, while you’re on vacation in Iceland. Their horses trot across a giant keyboard, typing nonsense. Then vacationers can send that reply to their bosses or coworkers, instead of worrying about work while they’re on holidays.

Do Melted Popsicles Block the Sun?

On a hot summery day, you need 2 things: an icy snack, and skin protection! It’s Grape Popsicle Day, and Sun Screen Day. 11 year-old Frank Epperson invented popsicles in 1905, when he left a stick in his grape soda and it froze. They were originally called Eppsicles. Apply your sunblock, then enjoy popsicles in the sun!

What would you like to do today? Travel to a new place, or fill a cooler with food for a picnic? Do both, for Road Trip Day and Cooler Day! Don’t forget, Friday is also Don’t Fry Day. Make sure you use sunblock if you spend time in the sun, so you don’t fry!

Today is Cellophane Tape Day. Invented in 1930, clear tape does more than seal packages. Artist Mark Jenkins, uses tape to make sculptures!
