Conserving Water While Producing Power

California has been in a drought for years. They’re testing new ways to save their water. One method is to cover irrigation canals, with solar panels. Currently, canals carry water to crops, but much of it evaporates into the air. Building solar panels over the waterways, would reduce evaporation, while supplying clean energy.

Get ready for a day full of cheesy snacks. It’s Cheese Doodle Day, celebrating the puffy corn curls, covered in powdered cheese. Keep your orange fingers off the sofa! It’s also Poutine Day, which could be even messier. Poutine is a plate of french fries, covered with squeaky cheese curds, and brown gravy.

Small Species of Stegosaur Discovered

A newly discovered fossil, could be the oldest stegosaur ever found in China, and possibly the world. The dinosaur species, called Bashanosaurus primitivus, was smaller than other stegosaurs, measuring only 9 feet long. It lived during the Middle Jurassic period, 170,000,000 years ago. The bony plates on its spine, helped protect the plant-eating creatures.

For more than a week, the Russian army has been attacking their neighbor, Ukraine. Other countries around the world, including many people in Russia, are trying to stop them. You can show support by displaying the blue and yellow colors of the Ukrainian flag, or their national flower, the sunflower, and learning their history.

Today is National Sons Day. We’re talking about male children, not balls of fire in the sky! Go to the park, or play board games, to celebrate the day with your family, since it’s also the Day Of Unplugging. Try to go without technology all day, but let me finish the Kids News first!

Don’t Pound on the Cake

Since today is Pound Cake Day, here’s an easy recipe! Cream one pound of butter, and gradually add one pound of sugar. Mix in one pound of eggs, then add a pound of flour, a little at a time. Bake at 300° Fahrenheit, for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Do you see why it’s called pound cake?

Whether you call it Marching Band Day or Marching Music Day, March 4th is the perfect day to march forth! If you know the difference between fourth and forth, or between their there and they’re, you’ll probably enjoy that today is also Grammar Day. It’s About Time!

The clock on a church tower in Grimsby England, has been stuck at 12:02 for over a decade. The minister got an estimate to fix it, and was told it would cost more than $50,000. Rick Haywood, a local cheesemaker, and 15-year-old Jay Foley, fixed it for free instead, using some grease and WD-40.

Collision Course With the Moon

The US Space Command, keeps track of junk orbiting Earth in lower space. One piece, a 3-ton chunk of an old Chinese rocket, will soon collide with the Moon. It’s expected to make impact on the far side of the Moon, leaving a big crater, and spreading lunar dust across hundreds of miles.
