California Zoo Welcomes a Rare Baby

Last week, a rare Amur leopard cub was born, at the Santa Barbara Zoo. There are fewer than 100 Amur leopards left in the wild, so every cub is important to the survival of the species. Mom Ajax, dad Kasha, and daughter Marta, are all strong, healthy, and enjoying some privacy while they bond.

Otis and Clementine’s Books and Coffee, is a purrfect shop in Nova Scotia Canada. While you browse their selection of books, you get to pet kittens. Kitty cats from the local animal shelter, roam freely through the aisles. They are all up for adoption, so your new furry friend can even be yours forever!

Bargain Shopping for Sports Equipment

Today is Garage Sale Day, Bowling Day, and Wiffle Ball Day. Go to yard sales early in the morning before the best stuff is gone. Maybe you’ll find a bowling ball, or a wiffle ball set for cheap. Wiffle balls are light and plastic with holes. I’ll carry that, and you carry the bowling ball!

Creamy Orangey Popsicles

Today is Creamsicle Day! Creamsicles are vanilla ice cream on a popsicle stick, covered with an orange flavored coating. 11 year-old Frank Epperson, made the original creamsicle in 1905, when he experimented with freezing orange juice around a vanilla ice cream popsicle. He originally called his inventions, “Epsicles”!

Doggie Lifeguards

There are some very hairy lifeguards in Italy. A squadron of 350 canines, from the Italian School of Water Rescue Dogs, is patrolling 30 different beaches. The daring dogs will dive in to rescue swimmers in trouble, even jumping out of helicopters if necessary. They save around 20 to 30 people every year!

Just Put My Food There Human

Researchers have found that most animals, from dogs to monkeys to giraffes, would rather work a little for their food. They’ll choose a meal trapped in a puzzle, over an open plate of food. Cats however, prefer the easy meal. Cats love to play, but don’t mess around with their food.

There’s a New Tamandua in California

The San Diego Zoo Safari, introduced a new baby tamandua. Tamanduas are a type of anteater, and Cora gave birth to her first pup in July. Cora, Fernando, and their daughter, are all doing well. The baby, who doesn’t have a name yet, travels on her mama’s back. Wild tamanduas can eat 9000 ants-per-day!

I Didn’t Do It

The first Friday the 13th of the year, is Blame Someone Else Day. Now’s your chance to get into mischief, and blame it on your siblings! If someone tries to blame their fart on you, tell them whoever smelt it dealt it! When they say it wasn’t them,  say whoever denied it, supplied it.

Check Out That Star

There’s a new Star in the sky, that wasn’t visible last week. RS Ophiuci is a star 4566 lightyears away, that erupts every 15 years. The eruption, called a nova, makes the star super-bright, as it ejects material into space at 2600 kilometers-per-second! It will fade over the next week or 2.
