Rainbows of Support for Love and Equality

It’s Pride Day, 50 years after the first Pride march was held in New York City. Today, and throughout June, the LGBTQ community and their supporters, celebrate their true selves. LGBTQ stands for lesbian-gay-bi-trans-queer. Whether you’re a boy, girl, or in-between, no matter who you love, or how you dress, be proud to be you.

Orange Dust Piles Up

Sharonville Ohio residents, have noticed orange dust on the sidewalk. It’s not leftover Cheetos, or the Saharan dust cloud that’s making its way across the ocean. It’s just a fungus falling from pear trees. Gymnosporangium clavipes, the cedar-quince rust fungus, isn’t harmful, but it might stain your shoes, so watch where you walk.

Finally, a Safe Hug!

A home for seniors in Brazil, has solved the problem of how to hug your grandparents, during a pandemic. They created a hug tunnel. The tunnel is made of clear, thick plastic sheeting, with arm holes built in. Visitors can hug their loved ones, knowing the plastic will keep any germs from spreading.

Fireworks Stress Dogs Out

Is your dog afraid of fireworks, or thunderstorms? Ford Motor Company used noise-cancellation technology built for vehicles in Europe, to design a quiet kennel for dogs. It’s like a soundproof tent, to calm your dog. Unfortunately, they’re not for sale yet, so try a loud fan and lots of pillows, to block out scary noises.

Coconut Whitecaps

It’s Chocolate Pudding Day! I wish I had a whole lake full of chocolate pudding. Since it’s also Canoe Day, I’d get in a canoe and paddle around, splashing everyone with pudding! It’s Coconut Day as well, so my imaginary lake has coconut palm trees growing around it. It’s fun to imagine weird things!

Doggie Coworkers Are the Best

Woof woof! Bark-bark, growl. Oops, it’s Take Your Dog To Work Day, and I guess my dog thought he was supposed to do my work! Such a good doggie! It’s also World Refrigeration Day. Before refrigerators, people used ice houses. Snow or ice blocks would stay cool under sawdust. Caves work great too.

Such a Good Dog

A dog named August, has lived longer than any other golden retriever. Augie is over 20 years old. She was already pretty old, when Jennifer and Steve Hetterscheidt adopted her 6 years ago, but the healthy pup is now ancient. In dog years, Augie is 20, but that’s more like 125 in human years!

Happy and Healthy

A man in Australia found out he’d won the lottery. He’d picked the winning numbers for a 500,000 dollar jackpot! The man was screaming so loudly with excitement, that the neighbors came over to see if he was hurt. They won’t be neighbors long, as he plans to buy a house with his winnings.

Remember, Don’t Touch Your Face

One way to avoid getting COVID-19, is to not touch your face, but it’s so easy to forget. 15-year-old Max Melia invented a reminder. It’s a wearable wristband, that alerts you when you’re about to touch your face. The English teen created the VybPro, after his parents got sick. He’s dedicated to staying healthy!

Time for Treats

It’s Leon Day! That’s Noel, spelled backwards, because Christmas is exactly 6 months away. Some people who make their own Christmas ornaments or gifts, get started on them now. I’d rather celebrate Strawberry Parfait Day, with a creamy, strawberry-ey, delicious layered dessert. A blue-white-and-red popsicle would also be great, for Bomb Pop Day!
