Enter Through the Donut Shop, in Miami Beach Florida, just had its grand opening. To celebrate, you could buy a dozen donuts for the price of 10: only $1000! The special 100 dollar donuts contained sweet purple yams, Cristal champagne, and 24 karat gold! They were reportedly delicious, but you might drop some bling on your shirt!

Around this time each year, you can see a firefall, at Yosemite National Park in California. It looks like a waterfall made of fire, flowing over the El Capitan rockface. However, it’s not really fire! The winter setting sun mixes with melting snow, making the seasonal waterfall look more like a fiery lava flow!

The latest mission of the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA, is collecting samples, from an asteroid named Ryugu. The Hayabusu 2 spacecraft landed on the surface, which surprised them by being made up of gravel instead of powder. The collected surface samples will be brought back to Earth by the end of next year.

National Cereal Day is coming up, and Post will be releasing 2 new cereal flavors. For a limited time, you’ll be able to get Honey Brunches of Oats in maple bacon donuts, or chicken and waffles flavors. Once they’re gone, they’re gone, perhaps for the best! I think I’ll stick to Peeps marshmallow cereal!

Crunch-crunch-crunch. Today is National Tortilla Chip Day! In Los Angeles in the 1940’s, Rebecca Webb Carranza noticed all the misshapen tortillas that were rejected at the El Zarape Tortilla Factory. She cut them into triangles and fried them, then sold them for 10 cents a bag. Corn + oil + water + salt = delicious!

A golfer at the Bonita National Golf Club in Florida, nearly got a hazard penalty. Joanne Sadowsky’s ball was headed into the water, when an alligator jumped up and caught it! It earned her a free drop, but I think it should have counted as a hole-in-one! She did not get her ball back.

A skull fragment from a Neolithic human, went on display this week at the Museum of London. The fractured skull bone is 5,600 years old, and was found near the River Thames. A mudlarker, or someone who digs through mud looking for valuables, called the police when he found the bone. That’s one cold case!

Artificial Intelligence, was recently given the task of creating cat photos from scratch. The neural network AI had done a great job, generating photos of human faces, which were nearly indistinguishable from photos of real people. But the cat images often had too many legs or eyes, or weirdly-shaped bodies. It was a cat-tastrophe!

There’s more to the sport of curling, than sliding a big rock down the ice. Sweepers heat up the pebbled ice, causing it to melt and reduce friction, but the rotation, speed and pressure are equally important. Today is Curling is Cool Day!
