Is That Tip Real or Artificial?

Over the weekend, a group of vervet monkeys was on the loose in Saint Louis Missouri. Now, a black and white goat is also wandering around the same city. They asked the public for information about the animals, but A I generated images are complicating the search. Hopefully they’ll locate the correct owners soon.

The Cooling Power of Snot

It’s summer in Australia right now, but animals have adapted ways to stay cool. Wombats retreat underground, koalas hide in the trees, and echidnas blow snot bubbles. Researchers found that when they blow bubbles out of their nose, the snot bubble bursts and wets the nose-tip. Then the evaporating moisture, cools their blood.

Sticky Ducks

Rubber duckies love to float in your bathtub, keeping you company. Today is Rubber Ducky Day, so give your ducks some extra playtime! Let them stick around for Sticker Day. If you want to see unusual stickers, just go to an arts and crafts store, and check out the scrapbooking section.

A Clean Desk Helps You Focus

Today is Clean Off Your Desk Day. Find a few minutes at school, to organize your desk, and don’t forget to sanitize it! If you’re learning from home, and don’t have a desk, clean off your workspace and make a clutter-free zone. What’s that? You study from your bed? Get up and make it!

Warm Up Your Belly

On a cold winter day, it’s lovely to have something hot in your tummy. Celebrate Hot Tea Day, with a tea-tasting party. Try chamomile tea, licorice tea, chai tea, and tea blends from different countries. Follow it up with a bowl of soup, for French Onion Soup Day. It has melted cheese on top!

It’s Not Too Sweet

Today is Marzipan Day. Marzipan is made using almond meal, and sugar or honey. The paste can be rolled out to cover cakes, or formed into sweet edible sculptures, like tiny animals or fruits, realistically painted with food coloring. I’d like to make all the planets. You could make a pan of marzipan Marzes!

You Can Do It!

Snow Interference Creates a Beautiful Sky

Sometimes pink skies come from sunsets, or because of the Aurora Borealis. But last week, England’s West Midlands sky was mysteriously glowing pink, for another reason. A snowstorm hitting LED lights on a soccer field, there to help the grass grow, caused the blue wavelengths to scatter, while enhancing the red and orange wavelengths.

No Stars for You

Our galaxy, the Milky Way, contains approximately 100,000,000,000 stars, and there could be 2,000,000,000,000 galaxies in the universe. But did you know there’s one galaxy, with no visible stars at all? The spiral galaxy, called J0613+52, is made of primordial gas, that was apparently never disrupted, so star formation was not triggered.

I Wonder If Woodpeckers Use Morse Code

Dot-dash, dot-dash-dot-dot, dot, dash-dot-dot-dash, dot-dash. That’s my name! What’s yours? It’s Learn Your Name In Morse Code Day. Morse code assigned a pattern of short and long taps to each letter, to communicate by telegraph before telephones were invented. Use it to send messages by flashlight, or tapping on your desk.
