Tani’s family fled from violence in Nigeria 2 years ago, and lived in a homeless shelter, making his ability to focus on chess even more impressive!

Last year, Adidas made more than 5,000,000 pairs of shoes, out of plastic cleaned up from beaches and oceans. They also made football jerseys from recycled materials. Adidas stores no longer use plastic bags, and they plan to use upcycled plastic in 11,000,000 pairs of shoes this year. That’s one way to kick ocean pollution!

Maryland may soon become the first state, to ban polystyrene containers. Styrofoam is a particularly harmful form of plastic, because it can’t be recycled. It breaks into pieces easily, so you can’t even re-use it, and the pieces litter the environment. There are much better alternatives. Good riddance to styrofoam rubbish!

The aurora borealis, or Northern Lights, is a glowing light show caused by solar storms in the Earth’s atmosphere. Normally, they are centered over the North Pole; in the South Pole they’re called aurora australis. But this weekend, the Northern Lights may be visible in much of the US. Try to find them!
