Don’t forget, tomorrow is the beginning of the Great Backyard Bird Count! You can participate all weekend, or for only 15 minutes, but your observations are important. From Friday through Monday, report your bird sightings online, at bird count.org. Last year, 160,000 people participated, giving an instant look at global bird populations. Count me in!

The Mars Opportunity Rover has finally stopped sending signals to Earth. NASA sent the robot to Mars in 2004, for what was supposed to be a 90 day mission. Instead, Oppy explored for 15 years! After a massive dust storm last year, the rover stopped responding. After more than 1000 attempts to contact it, NASA declared, “Mission complete.”

An apple orchard in Michigan surprised Andrew Sietesma recently, when he spotted ghost apples! Ice had formed around old apples that were still on the tree. When the limbs shook while he was pruning the trees, the mushy rotten apples slid out the bottom, leaving perfect ice apples behind! They’re beautiful!

You’ll need to dress warmly if you want to try finding your way through a giant maze in Canada. It’s made out of snow! The record-breaking maze is over 29,000 square feet. A Maze in Snow, located in Manitoba, was built with 300 truckloads of snow. It draws visitors from all over the world!

An art teacher in Texas, found a fun way to help her stressed-out students. Inspired by painter Bob Ross, Brady Sloane raised money to buy paints and wigs for her art classes. Then they watched an episode of The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross, and peacefully painted lots of happy little trees!

Serena Costello was out with her daughter, and left her pit bull, Sadie, in charge at home. When Sadie smelled a gas leak, she clawed her way out the door, broke through the fence, and ran around the streets until she found the police and led them to her house! Disaster averted!
