Put Up with It

Today is the International Day of Tolerance, first declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 1995. Tolerance is the ability to endure something that you don’t always like or agree with. As long as no one’s getting hurt, you can show tolerance with your little brother, your parents’ rules, or spinach!

Take Your Bear Out to Eat

Today is Button Day! Zippers are quicker and Velcro is easy, but buttons can be beautiful or whimsical, and they’re definitely quieter. It’s also Fast Food Day, so get your meal at a drive-thru restaurant. Then, find your teddy bears, because it’s Have A Party With Your Bear Day! Don’t forget the honey.

Go Practice Your Clarinet

Today is Clarinet Day. Squidward’s favorite instrument, is popular with kids joining the school band, partly because the case is easy to carry! Clarinets are part of the woodwind family of instruments, because you blow past a wooden reed. Listen to some early jazz clarinetists, like Sidney Bechet, Benny Goodman, or Woody Herman.

An Exciting Start to the School Day

How would you like to have breakfast, with a deer? Some students in Ohio were shocked, when a deer crashed through their school cafeteria’s window. Luckily, no one was hurt, including the deer. While students enjoyed breakfast in their classrooms, police escorted the deer safely off campus. School food is only for kids.

Houses that Can Withstand Hurricanes

Hurricanes are becoming stronger and more common, as the Earth gets warmer. One company is working to make new homes, that are hurricane-resistant. Deltec homes are cylindrical, with conical roofs, and are anchored to stilts that reach deep into the bedrock. It’s tough for the wind to get a grip on the surface.

Give It All Away

Today is Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day! Look way in the back for moldy leftovers, and compost them. Don’t forget to recycle any disposable containers, because it’s also America Recycles Day. Plus, it’s Philanthropy Day, which is giving money to good causes. Buy less, donate more, and give the landfills nothing!

Snack While You Write

My raisin bran is crunchy, and kind of chewy too. I’ll bake it in a bundt pan, and make a cake for you! That’s a little poem I made up, for I Love Writing Day. It’s also Raisin Bran Cereal Day, and Bundt Cake Day. Bundt pans can make ring-shaped cakes, or beautiful Jell-o.

Eat Some Green Stuff

Today is Pickle Day. Whether it’s a giant crunchy dill pickle or a tiny sweet gherkin, sliced on a sandwich, or fried on a stick, pickled cucumbers are delicious! Would you enjoy pickles dipped in squashed avocado? It’s also Spicy Guacamole Day, so this would be the day to try it!
