Don’t Forget Your Sunscreen, Little Corals

The Great Barrier Reef in Australia is the largest coral reef in the world, and it’s not doing so well. Rising ocean temperatures are the biggest threat to coral reefs. The Australian Institute of Marine Biology thinks sunscreen may be the answer! They’re testing a thin floating shield of calcium carbonate which will protect the coral from bleaching!

Great Barrier Reef gets Transplant

The Great Barrier Reef is an ecosystem of coral reefs over 1400 miles long off the coast of Australia. It’s the largest living thing on Earth. But pollution, climate change and coral bleaching are killing the reef. Scientists have been able to transplant healthy coral to help nurse the reef back to health.
