A Map That’s Out of This World!

The European Space Agency’s Gaia mission has a huge goal: mapping all the stars in our galaxy. The map pinpoints the location and brightness of 1.7 billion stars in the Milky Way. It also shows asteroids, interstellar dust, and the color and density of stars. The Gaia spacecraft is still adding to the incredible 3D map!

Juno Photographs Storms on Jupiter

NASA’s Juno spacecraft beamed back stunning images of swirling clouds on Jupiter taken during its last flyby. One photograph shows 8 massive rotating storms, nicknamed the String of Pearls. Storms on Jupiter often produce lightning which can be hundreds of times more powerful than on Earth. Juno’s next close flyby will occur December 16th.
