Think about all the things you use every day. Someone invented them all, from light bulbs and televisions, to socks and forks. Today is Inventors’ Day, so look up the origins of your favorite objects. When was it invented? Try to make your own invention, and someday someone might be looking up your object!

Coco’s eyelashes, are the envy of anyone who wants longer lashes. Coco is a newfypoo dog, which is a Newfoundland-poodle mix, and she has the longest eyelashes in the world. The California canine’s lashes, are 7 inches long! Coco’s humans always tell the groomer not to trim her beautiful lashes.

Hundreds of thousands of survivors of a devastating earthquake in Turkey this week, are now homeless while facing the bitter winter weather. The earthquake demolished cities in Turkey and Syria. If you want to donate money to help, give to recognized charities like UNICEF, OXFAM, Doctors Without Borders, or the Red Cross.

Today is No One Eats Alone Day. Does your cafeteria have a table where kids can go to find a lunch buddy? Suggest one, so that no one ever has to eat alone! If you’re doing virtual learning, have lunch with a friend by facetime, or put them on speakerphone.

Do you have flannel sheets? Flannel is soft and warm, so snuggle into your bed for Flannel Day. You might also have flannel pjs, or a plaid flannel shirt. If not, find one at the thrift store, since it’s Secondhand Wardrobe Week. End your day with a treat, to celebrate Cream Cheese Brownie Day.

Today we celebrate Umbrella Day. The umbrella, or bumbershoot, has been around for over 4000 years, but the Chinese were the first, to waterproof paper parasols. Folding umbrellas didn’t show up until 19 69. There’s an umbrella shop in London, called James Smith and Sons, that opened in 18 30. After 193 years, they must be umbrella experts!

Last month, YouTuber Airrack teamed up with Pizza Hut, to set a new world record. They made a gigantic pizza, measuring 13,957 square feet. The team laid out the ingredients on the floor of the Los Angeles Convention Center, then baked it using heat lamps. It had more than 630,000 pepperonis.

2-year-old Quinnley Meixel might have been hoping to make a cake, but ended up needing firefighters to rescue her instead. She took an angel food cake pan, which has a removable center section, and got her head stuck in it. Firefighters snipped the metal apart, and removed her safely. Baking can be tricky!

A man in California, built his own solar-powered tricycle, out of stuff lying around in his garage. Milton Butler is an inventor, and he says the design came to him in a dream. The trike uses an electric motor in a storage bin, and really saves money on gas! He named his trike Duckie.

Today is Chocolate Day, and also Toothache Day. Is it a coincidence? Or is it a reminder, that eating sweets without cleaning your teeth afterwards, could give you cavities? Schedule a visit with your dentist, then reward yourself with a chocolate taste test. Sample everything from creamy milk chocolate, to extra dark chocolate.
