Newborn Rhinos Weigh a Lot!

A zoo inSpain, is celebrating the birth of a big baby. The male calf is a Southern white rhino. He and his mom, Kwanza are doing well. White rhinos are endangered. The second-largest land mammal on Earth, they can weigh 140 pounds at birth, and their skin is 2 inches thick!

It’s Nice to Be Nice

Today is World Kindness Day. Try to think about each thing you do, and make sure you’re being kind. Then go out of your way to do one nice thing for someone. Can you do that every day? Think how great the world would be, if everyone treated each other with kindness!

Icy Iguanas

In Florida, unusual cold weather has been causing iguanas to fall from the sky. The large cold-blooded lizards have been falling from their perches in trees because they become immobile at low temperatures. They generally recover once they thaw out, so if you find frozen iguanas, move them to a sunny outdoor location.

The Delightful Northern Lights

Aurora borealis, or the Northern Lights, are colorful light displays in the sky that usually occur over northern polar regions. Due to a huge solar storm on the Sun, the aurora was visible as far south as Florida last night. Look north tonight through your phone’s camera, and you might see more amazing colors!

Classy Rats

Today’s not a day for just any old rodent. It’s Fancy Rat And Mouse Day. Many people keep fancy rats and mice as pets. If you have a mouse in your house, leave out a little top hat and bow tie, so he can be fancy too!

Today is Pizza With The Works Except Anchovies Day. Top your pizza with everything but little fish! How about candy corn, bananas, and french fries! Speaking of french fries, it’s also French Dip Day. It’s a roast beef sandwich dipped in meat juice, but french fries dipped in french vanilla ice cream sounds better!

Cutting It into 100 Pieces Makes 100 Worms

An invasive species called the hammerhead worm, is popping up in Texas. The half-moon-headed flatworm, can grow 15 inches long, and can regenerate new worms from pieces of itself. Heavy rains and warming temperatures give them the perfect environment to thrive, eating snails and earthworms. Report sightings to the Texas Invasive Species Institute.
