139 years ago, the Statue of Liberty was dedicated in New York. The statue stands in the harbor, and has welcomed millions of people from other countries, entering the USA on ships. National Immigrants Day celebrates all those who came to the United States from other countries, to find opportunity and happiness.

How Would You Like Your Potatoes?

Yay and hooray, it’s Potato Day! Have some baked potatoes and hash browns and potato dumplings and French fries and potato chips and home fries and sweet potatoes and tater tots and mashed potatoes! Do you still have leftover potatoes? Give them away for Halloween. Some kids will choose a potato, over candy!

Six Flags Wild Safari, in New Jersey, has 3 new baby zebras! The Grant’s zebra foals were born over the last few weeks, but visit them before the park closes November 9th. By the time the park reopens in the spring, they’ll look like big kids instead of babies

Autumn Ingredients

It’s a beautiful sight, to see leaves turn red, orange, and yellow in the autumn. Chlorophyll gives plants their green color, but what compounds cause the other fall colors? Orange leaves are full of beta-carotene, just like carrots. Yellow leaves are showing off their flavonols, while red leaves get their color from anthocyanins.

Norbert is a 175-pound pig, that taught himself to skate. His humans, Vincent and Alicen Baran, gave him an old skateboard, and he could roll down the street within a week! He just set a world record, for fastest 10 meters pushing a skateboard by a pig, traveling 33 feet in 11 seconds.

Try out your best howl and learn about wolves. It’s Howl At The Moon Day! Then visit a pumpkin patch, and eat something pumpkin-spice flavored, for Pumpkin Day. While you’re at the pumpkin farm, look for mules. A mule is a cross between a donkey, and a horse. Now you can celebrate Mule Day!

Sheep Are So Squishable!

Wool comes from sheep and some other mammals, like alpacas. Wool clothes have the amazing ability, to keep you warm, even when they’re wet. The surface can repel water, so sheep don’t worry about the rain. Since today is Hug A Sheep Day, find a farm that has kid-friendly sheep, and start hugging!
