Today is Sponge Cake Day. This light and airy cake is perfect with a cup of tea. Maybe it will make you feel light and airy enough to rise into the sky! It’s also Ride The Wind Day, so go sky diving or hang gliding, or maybe just fly a kite.

David Rush has broken another world record, by eating 107 blueberries in one minute. That might not sound like a lot, until you realize he could only use one hand, to pick up one blueberry at a time. It takes precision to keep them from rolling away, as well as some quick swallowing!

Paris Williams is only 6 years old, but she’s making a big difference in the lives of homeless people. She was inspired by Carl Chadwick Deal’s book, “One Boy’s Magic,” to form Paris Cares, and feed the homeless. Paris decorates care packages with pictures and messages, to add a personal touch.

Meteorologists are watching 2 storms very closely. The storm systems over the Atlantic Ocean, could turn into hurricanes, and both hit the Gulf of Mexico at the same time. One is Tropical Storm Laura, and the other is a tropical depression, that’ll be named Marco if it turns into a storm. Let’s hope it doesn’t!

The National Zoo in Washington DC, is overjoyed to welcome a new baby panda! Mei Xiang gave birth to a cub yesterday. You can watch the pandacam at nationalzoo.si.edu, to try to get a glimpse of the newborn, but it might be difficult; it’s only the size of a stick of butter!

Quick, cover your kitty’s ears. It’s Take Your Cat To The Vet Day. They need their vaccinations just like humans! It’s also Eat A Peach Day. A big, juicy, peach, is delicious on a hot summer day. Since today’s also Be An Angel Day, do nice things for people. Like giving them a peach!

A German University is looking for people, to do nothing. They’re offering idleness grants of $1900 to 3 people, who will agree to abstain from an activity. Active inactivity can be hard. Will they agree not to move for a week, or not to sleep for 3 days? Applications will become part of an exhibit.

Earlier this week, a Swiss town was covered in chocolate! A ventilation system at the Lindt factory, in Olten Switzerland, was malfunctioning. It caused cocoa powder to be released outside, where strong winds picked it up and blew it around town. It looked like it was snowing chocolate! Yummy!

2 years ago, Global Wildlife Conservation compiled a “25 Most Wanted” list. It detailed 25 lost species, that researchers had been unable to locate or study for decades. Since then, people have helped rediscover 5 species on that list! Thankfully, Jackson’s climbing salamanders, Wallace’s giant bees, velvet pitcher plants, silver-backed chevrotains, and Somali sengis, are not extinct!

Who is your favorite poet? Right now it might be Dr. Seuss or Shel Silverstein. As you get older and explore other poets, maybe it will be Maya Angelou, Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, or Shakespeare. Maybe you’ll become, your own favorite poet! Spend the day reading or writing poems, in honor of Poet’s Day.
