The perfect thing to do today would be, to fly around in a little plane, taking pictures of potato fields, with bows in your hair. That’s because it’s International Bow Day, World Photography Day, Potato Day, and Aviation Day. At the very least, spoon mashed potatoes into your mouth like an airplane!

Do you like to doodle during class? A student in India set a world record, by doodling all over a 6055-square-foot piece of paper. If R Monisha had started her floral doodles in school, the class would have needed to be 13 1/2 hours long! The drawing had to be completed in a single session.

One teenager in England, found a new hobby during the pandemic lockdown. Joseph Beer was taking daily walks with his mom, and noticed lots of dirty street signs and overgrown hedges. He decided to tidy everything up. He hooked a trailer to his bike, to transport tools, and is cleaning up Cambridgeshire!

California’s Death Valley reached record-high temperatures on Sunday. It was 130 degrees Fahrenheit, or 54.4 degrees Celsius! Furnace Creek ranch’s weather station has been taking readings for a long time. It recorded a temperature of 134 degrees back in 1913, but there are doubts about the accuracy. It’s certainly the hottest temperature in the world this century.

Astronomers have been watching the supergiant star Betelgeuse, wondering if it might collapse. It’s been getting dimmer again, after briefly brightening, which could mean it’s getting ready to go supernova. A supernova explosion would be visible during the day, and be brighter than a full moon for several weeks! Betelgeuse is 8.5 million years old.

Roses are red. Violets are blue. Some poems rhyme, but this one doesn’t. It’s Bad Poetry Day! Write a really bad poem for fun. It might be so bad, it’s good! It’s also Fajita Day. When you order a fajita you get your own sizzling pan of veggies, and tortillas to wrap them up!

Russian championship weight lifter Vitaly Vivchar, also free dives as a hobby. He decided to combine the 2 sports, and try underwater weight lifting. It turns out he was pretty good at it, because Vitaly set a new world record. He bench pressed a 110-pound barbell 76 times, before coming up for air!

An owl had a rough night, when it got tangled up in a kite string. The string was caught on a street lamp, leaving the poor owl dangling. Luckily, someone spotted it in the morning, and called firefighters to the rescue. The owl was taken to the vet, and is doing just fine.

Online shopping is so easy, you can even buy a house! Order your new tiny home from your phone, and the California company Mighty Buildings, can 3D-print it in 24 hours! A 350 square-foot home is $115,000. Delivery and installation are included in the price, but you’ll need to supply the land.

Last month, dark-skies specialist Stephen Hummel, took pictures of sprites in Texas. Unlike the mythological fairy-like creatures, these sprites were electrical discharges in the sky. Sprites look like pinkish-red columns, or jellyfish-shaped flashes of light, far above thunderstorms. You might spot a sprite if you watch a distant storm, and look above the clouds.
