Lefties, this day is for you! It’s International Left-Handers Day! About 10% of the population is left-handed. To stand out today, make people awkwardly shake hands with their left hands. Ask right-handers to write, or throw a ball with their left hands, for a good laugh.

Can you imagine a crocodile, with teeth the size of bananas? Deinosuchus, the terror crocodile, lived during the Cretaceous period 82,000,000 years ago. Recent studies of old fossils, show that the 33-foot-long crocodylians evolved into 3 species, including the newly identified Deinosuchus schwimmeri. They all attacked dinosaurs, that came to the water’s edge to drink.

If you hate going to the dentist, you’ll love the new recommendations from the World Health Organization. They advised postponing regular dental check-ups, until COVID-19 infection rates drop. The spray from patients’ mouths during dental cleanings, puts dentists at high risk. Brush and floss really well, and impress your dentist when you go back!

Elephants are the largest land mammals in the world. Their skin is an inch thick. They can weigh over 12,000 pounds, and grow 10 feet tall. They eat 300-600 pounds of food a day, with around 220 pounds coming back out as poop. Celebrate these amazing animals, for World Elephant Day!

Today is Vinyl Record Day. These big flat discs with a spiral groove, store sound. Dig out a record player and dance! Or, watch the Slow Mo Guys Spin a vinyl record so fast that it shatters, on their YouTube channel. Their camera films 343,000 frames-per-second. Everything’s amazing in slow motion!

It’s World Calligraphy Day, celebrating the artistry of writing. You can use a fountain pen, a wide-tipped marker, a brush, or a feather quill and ink. Look up calligraphy styles, and practice writing each letter carefully. Even a shopping list can look like a fancy wedding invitation, when written in calligraphy!

You have to be old enough, to make the important choice to get a tattoo, because you’ll have it for the rest of your life. A Michigan woman decided to get her first tattoo, to celebrate her 103rd birthday! Dorothy Pollack got a small frog on her arm, then took her first motorcycle ride!

Movie theaters may be closed because of COVID-19, but drive-in theaters are still popular. Unfortunately, there aren’t very many drive-ins around, so 160 Walmart stores in the United States, will turn their parking lots into theaters. The movies will be free, and you’ll stay safe in the car. Plus, you can bring your own snacks!

Cattle ranchers in some countries, have to worry about lions, tigers or leopards, attacking their livestock. Since big cats are endangered, one way to protect both the cows and the cats, is by tricking the predators. Farmers paint eyes on the cattle’s rumps! Lions don’t like to attack, while being watched by cow butts.

Today is Son’s And Daughter’s Day, which seems a little silly, because everyone is someone’s son or daughter! Any excuse to celebrate is welcome, so try to be the kind of kid that would make your parents proud. Let’s all be nice and helpful, and kind to each other!
