Can you imagine a world without the internet? Many of your parents were born before “www” meant anything! That alone deserves respect today, on Respect For Parents Day. It’s World Wide Web Day also. Thank you to Tim Berners-Lee for inventing the magnificent way to connect everyone in the world in seconds, back in 1989!

Brett Longo got an activity alert from his home security camera in Florida. He watched a very helpful black bear, wheel his trash can up the driveway. Unfortunately, the trash had not been picked up yet. The bear dumped the full can onto the lawn, to make sure he wasn’t throwing anything valuable away!

Do you have pet chickens? Maybe your family only keeps a chicken coop to get fresh eggs, but chickens can be lots of fun. You can buy tutus, helmets, and even fake arms, to entertain your chickens. You can also hypnotize them. As a bonus, chicken poop can fertilize your garden!

Today is World Ranger Day. With over 100,000 parks and protected areas around the world, park rangers are essential! In nature reserves where endangered species like elephants live, park rangers put their lives on the line, to protect animals from poachers. Park rangers help preserve the parks, so everyone can enjoy them forever!

Today is Get Gnarly Day. Be like a surfer attacking a gnarly wave, and tackle something fun and exciting. How about talking in an elevator? Did you ever notice how quiet people are, in an elevator? Since today is Talk In An Elevator Day, say hi and smile, and make someone happy!

Do you know how to play the hydraulaphone? Maybe you’d like to take nellophone lessons. Or you could watch someone play the theremin. It’s Uncommon Instrument Awareness Day!  It’s also National Mutt Day. Purebred dogs are great, but 2 breeds mixed together is twice as great, right? So a mixed-up mutt is best of all!

A teacher in England made 7,500 lunches for his students during lockdown. For 17 weeks, Zane Powles walked 7.5 miles to deliver 85 lunches each day. He wanted to be sure his kids still had access to food, while the school buildings were closed. He delivered the last lunch on July 17th, the last day of school.

Have you checked out comet NEOWISE yet? There’s still time to see it with the naked eye, although binoculars will give you a much better view. Look to the left of the Big Dipper’s cup, after sunset. If you’re trying to get a time-lapse photo, look out. Starlink internet satellites have been photo-bombing pictures!

Did you ever buy your cat a new bed, only to have him sit in the box instead? Amazon understands. Their new cardboard packaging uses less material, and comes with directions to build cat forts, robot costumes, or cardboard cars. It’s a way to give the boxes more life, before eventually recycling them.

Today is Cheesecake Day. The rich, creamy dessert is so good, that if you give someone a piece, they just might hug you! That’s okay, because it’s also Share A Hug Day. Hug your parents and pets, to show them you love them. Give everyone else air hugs, from a socially distant 6 feet away.
