Sky Filled with a Billion Birds

Birds are migrating south, to find warmer temperatures. There are so many birds, that they show up on weather radar. 159 doppler radars across the United States provide data that the Cornell Lab of Ornithology analyzes, and publishes results at birdcast.info. September 25th showed an astounding single-night migration, of 1.2 billion birds.

A Whole Lot of Little Dolls

Polly Pocket is a doll tiny enough, to fit in your pocket. But a YouTuber named Kerchie, has so many Polly Pocket toys, they need a whole room. She started collecting the dolls and playsets when she turned 30, remembering her childhood. Now, her 534-piece Polly Pocket collection, is the world’s largest.

Tiny Bull Is Good at Hide and Seek

Last week, a little bull named Lefty, escaped from his pen. Lefty is a miniature Scottish Highland bull, who had just arrived at the farm, and got spooked by a bigger bull. Since he’s only 3 feet tall, he squeezed under the fence. He can hide in tall grass, so he’s still on the loose!

It’s Nice to Be Nice

Did you know, it’s Do Something Nice Day? You could do something big, like raise money for victims of natural disasters, or something small, like giving someone a friendly smile. You could write a letter to your grandparents, or pick up a pice of trash. If everyone does one nice thing, today’ll be fantastic!

Thankful for Teachers

Teachers have one of the most important jobs in the world. During the pandemic, it was even harder, to juggle classroom safety, online learning, and keeping themselves protected all at once. Teachers are the best! Since World Teachers’ Day falls on a Sunday, write them a thank you note today, to deliver on Monday.

Beanie’s Baby Sloth

The Elmwood Park Zoo in Pennsylvania, has a new baby two-toed sloth. The mama sloth, named Beanie, gave birth in August, but they only recently made their public debut. The little one will be called Beanie’s Baby for now, since they won’t know if it’s a boy or girl until next year.

P is for Pangolin and Polenta

Today is Polenta Day, which is boiled cornmeal. Try it baked or fried. It’s also World Animal Day, so invite all your animal friends. Can you name an animal that starts with each letter of the alphabet? B is for Bobcat, S is for Squid, and W is for Wombat. Your turn!

Today is International Frugal Fun Day. Frugal means thrifty, so do something that doesn’t cost a lot of money. How about a hike in the woods, to find different-colored leaves! You can make cards with them, for Card Making Day. It’s cheaper than buying a card, and a way to give frugal fun away.
