Sons and Daughters Are Wonderful

Today is Son’s And Daughter’s Day, which seems a little silly, because everyone was born as someone’s son or daughter! Any excuse to celebrate is welcome, so try to be the kind of kid that would make your parents proud. Let’s all be nice and helpful, and kind to each other!

Fun with Sand

Grab your buckets and shovels, because today is Play In The Sand Day. Make a sand castle at the beach, or a construction zone in the sandbox. If you’d rather stay home, you’re in luck. It’s also Global Kinetic Sand Day. The squeezable sand, was originally mixed with beeswax, to make it less messy.

Don’t Touch That Kitty’s Tummy

Today is World Lion Day. The “King of the Jungle” actually inhabits grasslands. A lion’s roar can be heard for 5 miles! They live in groups of about 15, called prides, with a male as the leader. The mane of hair around his neck gets darker with age. Lion populations are shrinking. Let’s save the lions!

Modern Art and Ancient History

Get out of the summer heat, by visiting a museum for Smithsonian Day. If you live near Washington DC, you’re lucky. All of the Smithsonian museums are always free! See dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum and planes at the Air and Space Museum. Visit art museums, the zoo, and so much more!

Lakes Are Great

Did you know, it’s Spoil Your Dog Day? Take your dogs on a long walk, play fetch as long as they want, give them all their favorite treats, and give them lots of belly rubs. It’s also Celebrating Your Lakes Day, so everyone should enjoy a day by the water.

S’mores for a Lazy Day

Today is Skyscraper Appreciation Day. The world’s tallest building is over half-a-mile high, in Dubai. Could you climb to the top? Maybe not today, since it’s also Lazy Day. See if you can sleep 16 hours, like a cat! When you wake up, make s’mores around a fire. S’mores Day celebrates the chocolate-marshmallow-graham cracker treat.

Slice a Melon Smile

Today is Melon Day. There are at least 30 varieties of melon, so if you buy them all, you can have a feast! The biggest cantaloupe in the world, weighed 65.9 pounds, while the world’s biggest watermelon weighed over 350 pounds! Plant the seeds, and maybe you can grow your own watermelon bathtub!
