Today is Pick Blueberries Day, but there’s no need to stop there. Summertime is a great time to pick wild blackberries, raspberries, and wineberries. Look for trees with plums, pears, peaches, or apples, and see if they’re ripe yet. Pull up some wild onions, dandelion greens, and violets, for a salad. Harvesting is fun!

Gather all your teddy bears and a basket of food, and head outside. It’s Teddy Bear Picnic Day! You should probably bring some honey for your bears. Speaking of honey, watch out for bees, especially since it’s Don’t Step On A Bee Day! You don’t want to squish any awesome pollinators, or get stung!

Today is Kitten Day. Your cat might not understand your meows, but you can communicate with your eyes. Just narrow your eyes, and blink very slowly at your kitty. It’s like a friendly smile, and can make a wary cat approach you. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a slow-blink smile in return!

Many parks across the United States, now offer the use of heavy-duty wheelchairs. The all-terrain electric chairs can operate on steep, rocky, muddy, or sandy trails, so everyone can enjoy the great outdoors! There are only a few chairs at each park, so visitors with disabilities should reserve the chair in advance.

People often talk to babies, in funny voices. Researchers found that dolphins, also use baby talk with their calves. Bottlenose dolphins whistle at a higher pitch, when communicating with their babies in relaxed situations. The whistling patterns were similar to the high-pitched voices human parents use, when they talk to their little ones.

A foul-smelling package, once caused the of a post office, and made 12 workers sick. The box contained durian, the fruit with a notoriously noxious odor. Durian has been banned from subways in Singapore, and caused fire departments to investigate for gas leaks, but people still love to eat them. Happy Durian Day!

Today is Sugar Cookie Day. Find an easy recipe online, or buy a roll of dough if that’s easier for you. Sugar cookies are the best, because you can decorate them with sprinkles, icing, or food dyes. Use cookie cutters to make different shapes, or make one cookie as big as your head!
