What do you get, when a chicken lays an egg on the roof? You get, an egg roll! R-O-F-L. Today is Egg Roll Day, celebrating the tasty fried appetizers found at nearly any Chinese restaurant. It’s also Frosted Cookie Day, if you’re looking for an idea for dessert.

Today is Black Cow Day. A black cow is root beer or cola with a scoop of ice cream in it. It’s also Iced Tea Day, another great drink for a hot day. While you’re enjoying your drink, celebrate Ballpoint Pen Day by writing about its invention in 1943, by Laszlo and Gyorgy Biro.

12-year-old Arabella Duffy likes the little things in life. She loves making miniature objects out of polymer and clay, and creating dioramas. Her tiny foods look so real, that she has earned thousands of dollars selling her creations online. Whether it’s a bite-sized strawberry shortcake, or an artist’s shoebox-sized studio, they’re miniature masterpieces.

A grocery store in Thailand, had a big visitor. A wild elephant named Plai Biang Lek, wandered out of the Khao Yai National Park, and into the store in search of snacks. He helped himself to bananas, eggs, a sandwich, and sweet rice crackers. An elephant lovers group donated money to pay for his feast.

Playing in the dirt, can be good for your health. A daycare in Finland planted the yard with forest undergrowth, and let the children care for crops in planter boxes. After only 1 month, the kids developed healthier immune systems, than children who played in yards covered with pavement or gravel.

Last March, 2 otters escaped from a Wisconsin zoo. Ophelia was recaptured 2 weeks later, but Louie is still loose. Louie was born in the wild, so his instincts helped him return to living on his own. The zoo has confirmed that he is healthy, and accepted his decision to be a wild otter.

Quack-quack-quack. It’s Donald Duck Day! The beloved grumpy duck made his first appearance in a 19 34 cartoon. He’s been in even more movies than Mickey Mouse! It’s also Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day. What a sweet way, to eat your daily fruits and vegetables! Is your name Earl? You deserve extra pie, because it’s Earl Day!

The world’s smallest violin, can only be seen with a microscope. A team of physicists at Loughborough University created a platinum violin, that is smaller than the width of a human hair. Unfortunately, the violin is not playable, so you won’t be able to hear the world’s smallest violin playing for you.

Endangered species are getting a helping hand, from space. NASA is helping ecologists protect animals, by using satellites. They’ve identified suitable habitat for big animals, including 50% more area for tigers, and suitable corridors for elephants. They’re also working on expanding protective spaces for bighorn sheep, Mojave Desert tortoises, and greater sage grouses.

Hey kids, tell your parents it’s Children’s Day! They’ll probably tell you, every day is children’s day, but maybe you can convince them to give you a special treat anyway. How about some candy? June is National Candy Month, because there’s too many kinds of candy to try, in just one day.
