Wherever you go today, bring along a book. It’s World Book Day! If you’re reading a good story, you’ll be happy to ride the bus in traffic, or wait forever for an appointment. Since it’s also I Want You To Be Happy Day, let your family and teachers know you’re reading. They’ll be pleased!

2 Michigan men spent a day on the ski slopes, but they didn’t stick to one place. Kyle Kelly and Brad Dykstra started off at the Nubs Nob ski resort, ended up at the Cannonsburg Ski Area, and visited 21 other Michigan resorts in between! 23 resorts in 24 hours is a world record.

I can’t wait to eat dessert, because it’s Banana Cream Pie Day! Find an easy recipe online, and tuck your bananas into a bed of custard. If you want to be really lazy, dip a banana in pudding, spray whipped cream on top, and eat it between 2 graham crackers.

Do you have any old stuff lying around the house? Gather it all up, because it’s Old Stuff Day! Play with your old toys, figure out which old clothes you’ve outgrown, and take a look at your old bad habits. Now get rid of anything you don’t need, and enjoy what’s left!

It’s National Read Across America Day, also known as Dr. Seuss Day. Read Fox in Socks, or another Seuss favorite to celebrate his birthday!

If you see someone with a dirt smudge on their forehead today, it’s probably not because they’re messy. Today is Ash Wednesday, the start of the Christian period of fasting before Easter, called Lent. Some people wear ashes as a sign of repentance. You still have to wash your face!

The Tequila fish was once extinct in the wild. In 19 98, the Chester Zoo in England, gave 5 males and 5 females, to Michoacana University. A team nurtured the tiny fish, teaching them to survive in a pond habitat. Now there are 10,000 of them, and 1,500 were released into Mexican rivers.

If you live on a farm, every day might include horses and pigs. The rest of us should also think about them today, because it’s Horse Protection Day and Pig Day. Charlotte’s Web, and Black Beauty, are great books to read, to learn how to treat pigs and horses, with respect and kindness.

It’s Peanut Butter Lover’s Day and World Compliment Day. Eat peanut butter and say nice things to everyone!

IHOP, which stands for International House of Pancakes, is celebrating Pancake Day, by giving away free pancakes. Do you like buttermilk, blueberry, chocolate chip, or pecan pancakes the best? It’s also Fruit Compote Day, which is another name for delicious-sweet-syrupy-fruit-that-you-put-on-top-of-pancakes. Blackberry compote’s my favorite. I think I’ll have fruity pancakes for dinner.
