Tofu For You

Some people can make cakes, that look like anything. But other people can make beans, that taste like anything! Soybeans are used to make tofu, which can be used in place of meat or eggs, or all on its own! It’s World Tofu Day, so go vegetarian for the day, and eat tofu instead.

Coffee and Bagels

Bagels for breakfast, lunch and dinner are on today’s menu, because it’s National Bagelfest Day! The chewy bread comes in many flavors, and you can top them with just about anything. It’s also Coffee Milkshake Day. You can have your coffee and bagels like the grown-ups, but your coffee will be cold and supersweet!

Finally Found it!

An overdue book was returned to a library in England, only 63 years late. The book, called “How to Lie with Statistics,” came back with a note saying, “Better late than never! Apologies for the late return!” It was dropped off anonymously. They were probably afraid they’d have to pay $4722 in late fees!

Homes for Everyone

A Missouri woman, is trying to make sure no one in Springfield, ever has to sleep outside. As a realtor, Linda Brown sees a lot of abandoned properties. She’s made it her mission, to turn them into villages of tiny homes for the homeless. There are 31 so far, with many more to come!

More Trees Please

Scientists are exploring how nature, helps kids’ brains develop. They’re discovering that spending time around trees, helps the brain’s neurons branch out. Grasslands and lakes didn’t have the same benefits. Maybe seeing tree branches, shows the neurons what to do! Wandering amongst the trees, is good for your mental health.

Circle Around the Sundae

Are you ready to ride around in circles? It’s Carousel Day! Your merry-go-round might have horses, or it could have tigers and ostriches. Pick your favorite, listen to the calliope music, and wave to everyone! Afterwards, celebrate Hot Fudge Sundae Day. Ice cream tastes better topped with gooey chocolate, whipped cream, and a cherry!

Today is Parents’ Day! I guess it’s for kids who forgot Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. It’s also Savvy Aunties’ Day. Your Auntie knows what’s up! An aunt is your mom or dad’s sister, but it could also be a nickname for a special family friend. Do something fun with everyone!

Whole Lotta Cornholin’

Nebraska grows a lot of corn. The state will also be known for cornhole, a game where people toss bags of corn at a wooden platform, with a hole in it. A group of Nebraskans broke the world record, after playing cornhole for more than 26 hours and 13 minutes. Time for a nap!

Powerful Mussels

Scientists are studying the possibilities of using mussels, to get rid of microplastics. That’s not muscles as in strong arms, but as in the clam-like shellfish. Mussels can filter the tiniest pieces of plastic from the ocean, without any harm to themselves. After eating microplastics mixed with plankton, they excrete droppings suitable for biofuel.
