Today is Green Juice Day. Smoothies made with spinach or kale, green grapes, and other fruits and vegetables, might surprise you with their deliciousness! It’s also Peanut Brittle Day. The buttery hard candy is full of peanuts, and can stick in your teeth, so you can wash it down with your healthy green juice!

The Blue Spring State Park, in Florida, is a popular hangout for manatees. Cold waters elsewhere, drive the manatees to the spring’s constant 72° Fahrenheit temperature. Manatees are mammals that don’t do well in water below 68°, so unusually cold temperatures are hard for them to handle. You can watch them at ManaTV.org.

Most pitcher plants are carnivorous. They trap and digest insects for nutrients. Some species of pitcher plants, however, have evolved to digest animal poop instead. The plants get a hefty dose of nitrogen from the droppings of shrews, rats, and bats, while the animals eat carbohydrates off the plant lids. Everyone’s happy.

A beloved rock known as Portable, recently went missing from its home in British Columbia. Located at the base of the Superfly boulder in Squamish, rock climbers often practiced their balance and grips on the hunk of granite. Portable had apparently had an adventure, because it turned up 1,700 miles away in California.

Today is Observe The Weather Day. Watch how the clouds move, record the temperature, and feel the moisture in the air. If you are one of the people affected by the 2,000-mile-wide winter storm in the United States, you might get to see snow, sleet, ice, and freezing rain, all in one day!

Today is Opposite Day, so say the opposite of what you mean. Ice cream is horrible! I love getting tons of homework! I want to clean the toilets! Don’t forget to say, “Just kidding, it’s Opposite Day,” or you might confuse a lot of people! Just don’t give opposite answers on tests.

Today is Talk Like A Grizzled Prospector Day. Pretend you’ve found a hunk of gold, in the 18 48 California Gold Rush! Your impression might make people laugh, for Belly Laugh Day! Everyone needs a good loud laugh once in a while, especially when everyone is cracking up together.

Today is Compliment Day. A compliment is when you say something nice to someone. You could tell them you like their shirt, or that they’re really good at soccer. Give your compliments to the chef after your next meal, or make a stranger’s day by telling them they have a nice smile. It’s easy!

In 1895, John Harvey Kellogg invented peanut butter, as a protein paste for people who couldn’t chew meat. Soon, everyone else discovered how delicious it was. Today is Peanut Butter Day, so enjoy some on a sandwich! Make your own, by chewing a mouthful of roasted peanuts really really really well. Please don’t share.
