It’s time to celebrate Take Your Parents To The Playground Day. Gather some snacks from the kitchen, and a ball or frisbee, then surprise them with your plans for a picnic at the park! Be sure to push them on the swings, and catch them when they come down the slide, haha!

Spring is here, and so are the weeds. Luckily, it’s Weed Appreciation Day! Instead of putting weed-killer on your lawn, welcome weeds like dandelions and clover. They are some of the first flowers to bloom, and bees depend on them! You can also eat dandelions, wild onions, chickweed, and purslane. Pick your own salad!

Put your forks away. It’s Something On A Stick Day! Pierce your peas with a toothpick, freeze your juice on a popsicle stick, and skewer your entire dinner on a kebab. Dip strawberries on a chopstick in chocolate fondue. Then roast marshmallows on a stick over a campfire. Everything’s better cooked on a stick!

Today is Children’s Picture Book Day. Read all of your favorite picture books, check out new ones from the library, or create your own book! Since it’s also Black Forest Cake Day, try reading Chocolate Cake, by Michael Rosen, 5 Cherries, by Victoria Facchini, and Whipped Cream Princess, by Brooke Wilson and Chuck Horton.

Here’s a fun activity to do with someone, for Scribble Day. Each person draws a scribble on a piece of paper. Now exchange papers, and turn the line into a drawing! Scribbles can become works of art. Just look up the famous artist, Cy Twombly, for inspiration. Time to scribble a masterpiece!

Today is World Theatre Day. Whether you see a musical on Broadway, take part in a school play, or go to a puppet theatre, it’s great to see a live performance. You could also create a play with your friends, and perform for the whole neighborhood. It’s another way, to “play in the backyard!”

Josephs, Joeys, Josephines, get ready: today is National Joe Day. Joe is also a nickname for coffee. It’s Quirky Country Music Song Title Day too. “My T-Rex Ran Away With My Legos and All I’ve Got to Drink is This Cup of Old Joe,” would be a great song. Now YOU make one up!

New animal species were discovered, during a survey of limestone caves in Cambodia. The previously unknown animals include a turquoise pit viper, micro-snails, geckos, millipedes, and a flying snake! Flying snakes propel themselves through the air from high places, by flattening the abdomen and flaring out the ribs, to create a concave wing.

Travelers in United States airports, are experiencing long lines to get through security. The Philadelphia International Airport, created a different kind of line. They broke a world record, by assembling the longest line of cheesesteaks. The airport’s restaurants pitched in to make 1,291 feet of steak and cheese sandwiches, which passengers later ate.

The American Meteor Society receives reports, when people see fireballs streak across the sky. But a Texas family got a closer look, when a melon-sized meteorite crashed through their roof. The space rock landed in an empty bedroom. Several meteors have been spotted this week, including one accompanied by a sonic boom.
