Scientists have discovered a shark that glows in the dark. At 5 feet long, the kitefin shark is probably the world’s largest bioluminescent animal. It lives in the ocean’s twilight zone, half-a-mile deep. At that depth, their glow would act like camouflage, when seen from below. The glow helps them blend in, like tiger’s stripes.

Did you know we’re in the middle of Return Borrowed Books Week? It ends Sunday, so try to finish books from the library, or borrowed from a friend or teacher, that you’ve had for awhile. Since it’s also Cheese Doodle Day, be sure you don’t leave orange fingerprints on the pages, while you snack!

Today is Middle Name Pride Day. Maybe you’re named after someone special, or maybe it just sounded good. See if you can guess your friends’ middle names. They can be your secret code names! It’s also the National Day of Unplugging. Try to go without technology all day. Wait, stop. Unplug everything but me.

The SpaceX company, hopes to send people to Mars someday. The 10th prototype of a Starship rocket, was tested on Wednesday. The launch, which was unmanned, was the best one yet. The 16-story Starship launched 6 miles into the sky, then returned to Earth, and landed successfully. Unfortunately, it fell over and exploded 8 minutes later.

6-year-old Vivian Lord wrote a letter to BMC Toys, asking why they only make little Green Army Men. She complained that she’d seen pink army men, but soldiers don’t wear pink, and they still weren’t women. Thanks to Vivian, you can finally buy Green Army Women, to celebrate Toy Soldier Day today!

Wherever you go today, bring along a book. It’s World Book Day! If you’re reading a good story, you’ll be happy to sit on the bus in traffic, or wait forever for an appointment. Since it’s also Name Tag Day, pretend you’re one of the characters in your book, and wear their name instead!

Since today is Pound Cake Day, here’s an easy recipe! Cream one pound of butter, and gradually add one pound of sugar. Mix in one pound of eggs, then add a pound of flour, a little at a time. Bake at 300° Fahrenheit, for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Do you see why it’s called pound cake?

Whether you call it Marching Band Day or Marching Music Day, March 4th is the perfect day to march forth! If you know the difference between fourth and forth, or between their there and they’re, you’ll probably enjoy that today is also Grammar Day. Have a contest, to find the most unnecessary apostrophes!

The Heathcoat family learned, never to leave their garage door open. They walked into their garage to find a 7-foot alligator hanging out in the shade. They live in Florida, where alligators turn up in unusual places. The Fish and Wildlife Commission relocated the gator to a more suitable habitat.

In 2014, satellites detected a flow of plasma that swirled for hours, high in the Earth’s upper atmosphere. After years of analysis, scientists have concluded it was a space hurricane. The hurricane was over the North Pole, and was over 600 miles wide. It rained electrons into the ionosphere, creating a cyclone-shaped aurora below the storm.
