9000 years ago, cats started hanging out with humans. Humans began farming, rodents were attracted to crops, and wild cats came to catch the rodents. The farmers rewarded them with food scraps. While dogs look much different than their wolf ancestors, genetic research shows cats are still mostly wild and unchanged, because they tamed themselves.

Today is International Women’s Day, which was first celebrated in 19 11. Women have not always had the same rights as men, so they had to work hard to gain equality. Today is Oregon Day. Did you know the state is home, to the deepest lake in the United States? Crater Lake is nestled in the top of a sleeping volcano. Mount Mazama was 12,000 feet tall before it erupted and collapsed 7,700 years ago. Its crystal clear, deep blue water, comes entirely from rain and snow-melt.

Don’t Forgot to Proofread

Two day is Poofreading Day. I mean proofreading. You might thin spellcheck will catch all your mistakes, but if you spell worms right, but really meant to write words, you’re going to really confuse the reader. And don’t even get me started on autocorrect fails. Always double-check what you wrote, before you click submit.

Hooray, No Cavities!

Turkeys don’t have teeth, but sometimes they go to the dentist. A wild turkey in California, crashed through the window of a dentist’s office without an appointment. He may have been confused by his reflection, and was not happy to find himself trapped inside. Wildlife rescuers safely released him back into the wild.

Rover Goes for a Spin

The Mars Perseverance is officially roving. On Thursday, the newest rover took its first test drive on the Red Planet, leaving tire tracks in the dust. Perseverance travels 5 times faster than the previous Curiosity rover, but it still only traveled 21 feet in 33 minutes. At least there’s no traffic on Mars.
